I grew up in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, and those mountains—and the friendships that formed there—remain the centering force in my life. After graduating with an English degree from Clemson University, I landed in Columbia, South Carolina, where I’ve spent a magical 30 years as founder/creative director of brand consultancy Riggs Partners. I also co-founded CreateAthon, a national agency network that donated more than $25 million in marketing services to nonprofits around the country. When not staring obsessively at the Black Mountain range from our Western North Carolina weekend place, my husband and I make our home in downtown Columbia, in a pretty, updated ranch that’s situated rather perfectly under a canopy of grand, old oaks.

I love:   white t-shirtscold beer in a frosted mug, brown leather boots, thursdays, freshly cut grass, stacks of books, dog kisses, thank-you notes, the sounds of college football, coats, new recipes, october skiesbread dipped in olive oil, down comforters, the colors of hawaii, and paris. oh, do i love paris.

  1. I liked your post on March 6, but it would have had the same effect if you wouldn’t have used the word “damn”. I Corinthians 8:13.

  2. The recipe for Tapps Cornsticks was awful. They are not anything like what Tapps use to serve. Don’t know where you got this recipe but something is wrong with it.
